Based on Vikas Swarup’s novel Q and A, Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of an orphan (Jamal) from the slums of Mumbai, a petty thief, imposter and survivor. At twenty he finds himself on a TV quiz show – he answers every question correctly and becomes a national hero. But is he a cheat? The reasons he knows the answer to each question are spliced into the film as a series of flashbacks from his life.
