The Story of the Weeping Camel

April 6, 20068:30pm

Deep in the Gobi desert, a family of nomadic Mongolian camel herders faces a serious problem. A mother camel has rejected her newborn colt. Death is near. There is only one thing to do, rekindle the mothers love through a ritual of music. Two young boys set out to find a traditional musician to save the rare white colt. A window into a distant culture few of us know anything about, this film captures the strength and warmth of family ties and traditions, against a backdrop of the eerie vastness of southern Mongolia. The director drew upon her grandparents way of life and together with Falorni shot the film in the spring birthing season in about a month. Its a narrative documentary that uses real people to play themselves in a story that oozes authenticity.

This surprise Oscar nominated film brought tears to the eyes of even the most cynical critics. A real and unexpected gem. James Christopher, The Times
