Long-regarded as the most politically radical film of the early-1970s “Blaxpoitation” genre, Ivan Dixon’s The Spook Who Sat by the Door was cruelly restricted on release in 1973, becoming a near-legendary bootleg until its subsequent re-release and critical rediscovery.
Jacaranda Books are now presenting a special screening of this historically-important film, with a live Q&A, at the Everyman Stratford International on the 3rd of June. Featuring a score by Herbie Hancock, this is a key work in Black Cinema of the late twentieth century.
