In this creative documentary (funded by the Wellcome Trust) director Josh Appignanesi and his partner, academic and author Dr Devorah Baum, turn the camera on themselves. The film charts from both the female and male point of view the impact of IVF treatment, pregnancy and new parenthood on their lives. Josh came to the WFC in our early days for a screening and Q&A of his excellent short film about a dementia patient in a care home, Ex Memoria (which has been used as a training resource for care professionals). He has since directed the feature length films Song of Songs and The Infidel (written by David Baddiel, also a producer of The New Man). Devorah is a Lecturer in English and Critical Theory at the University of Southampton and is the author of the books Feeling Jewish and The Jewish Joke, both to be published later this year.
“Lovely, very personal and abjectly honest documentary … very engaging and thoroughly likable piece of work.” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
“Profoundly moving and revealing study of a life-changing event.” Wendy Ide, The Observer
“A playful, painful film, artful and honest.” Dave Calhoun, Time Out
