5 Broken Cameras

March 13, 2014Members’ Choice8:00pm

Personal, political documentary of Palestinian protest against Israeli occupation.

Controversial, edgy film that became a festival favourite. Impossible to watch it without an intense reaction. How will it affect you?

When  self-taught cameraman Emad Burnat gets his first camera, his Palestinian village of Bil’in is encroached on by Israelis bulldozing the village’s olive groves to build a barrier to separate Bil’in from the Jewish settlement Modi’in Illit.

The barrier’s route cuts off 60% of Bil’in farmland. Burnat records the efforts of the villagers to resist this seizure of more of their land by the settlers.

A video testimony with a stark, indignant urgency.’ Sight and Sound.
